About the Founder
Meet Ni’Kita Durham-Wilson
It Has Always Been About You
For more than 25 years, I have worked in the beauty industry helping create products designed to help women care for themselves and feel more confident. I began my career as a cosmetic chemist, spending 15 years at the bench formulating skin care, hair care, and sun care products before expanding into product development and innovation strategy.
Some of the most meaningful moments in my career came through letters and stories from women who shared how a product helped them feel more confident, more comfortable, or more like themselves. Those messages stayed with me. They reminded me that the work was never only about what we could create. It was about what those creations made possible in a woman’s life.
As I learned more about the data documenting the effects of chronic stress on Black women, the connection between feeling good and being well became impossible to ignore. The research showed how sustained stress, unequal burdens, and limited access to support can affect our mental and physical health, even as Black women are expected to remain strong and continue caring for everyone around us.
That understanding led me to become a Certified Stress Management Coach so I could help women recognize stress and develop practical ways to respond to it. Pursuing a doctorate in Clinical Psychology is a continuation of that commitment. My studies are deepening my understanding of how our experiences, environments, relationships, and patterns of thinking can shape well-being and expanding my capacity to serve Black women more fully.
That purpose led me to Love YU Collective.
Why I Created Love YU
Black women are often expected to carry a great deal while continuing to show up for their families, careers, communities, and relationships. Making room for ourselves can bring guilt, especially when we have learned to measure our value by how much we can do for everyone else.
Love YU offers another invitation.
It invites you to notice what you need, explore what you want, care for yourself with intention, and make choices that honor your capacity. It gives you practical places to begin, even when you have limited time, energy, or clarity.
Love YU stands for You Unapologetically. It reflects the belief that choosing yourself deserves a place in your life. The word Collective reminds you that you do not have to figure everything out or accept that invitation alone.
The Work Behind the Mission
My background brings together science, product development, stress management, business strategy, and psychology. Each part informs how Love YU approaches well-being.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and an MBA. I have authored a textbook chapter on anti-aging, contributed to patented innovations, and spent decades developing consumer products. I am also a Certified Stress Management Coach and a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology.
These experiences allow me to examine well-being from several perspectives while remaining clear about the role Love YU plays. Love YU provides thoughtfully developed information, practical tools, reflective practices, curated resources, and products that can help you care for your mind, body, heart, and capacity for joy.
What I Want for You
I want you to leave every Love YU experience more equipped than when you arrived.
That may mean finding language for something you have been feeling, choosing one manageable step when life feels overwhelming, learning how to participate more confidently in your care, reconsidering a boundary, exploring something that interests you, or making room for a moment of joy.
You do not need to change your entire life at once. You only need enough clarity to take your next step with intention.
Love YU is here to help you find that step, one invitation at a time.
With much love & respect,
Ni’Kita Durham-Wilson
