Rethink Boundaries
Your boundaries can change as your life, responsibilities, relationships, and needs change. This is a space to notice where something may no longer be working for you and consider what you want to handle differently. Find practical guidance to help you understand your limits, communicate them clearly, follow through, and create more room for what matters to you.
How Can You Rethink Boundaries?
Pause & Reflect
Find the Boundary
Sometimes the hardest part of setting a boundary is figuring out exactly where you need one. Start with a situation that has been bothering you repeatedly.
Name What Keeps Happening
What keeps happening?
Write only the facts.
Try to be specific rather than describing the entire relationship.
Notice Your Response
How do I usually feel when this happens?
What do I typically do in response?
What do I wish I had done differently?
Identify Your Limit
Complete this sentence:
What isn't working for me anymore is ____________________.
Then:
Going forward, I am willing to ____________________.
I am no longer willing to ____________________.
Put the Boundary Into Words
Now write what you actually need to communicate.
What do I need the other person to know?
Keep it clear enough that you could actually say it.
Decide How You Will Follow Through
A boundary also needs an action that belongs to you.
If the situation happens again, what will I do?
Your answer gives the boundary something practical to stand on.
Boundaries can be difficult to recognize and even harder to communicate. Learn how to identify where you need one, decide what needs to change, and put it into practice.
